Himalayan Pink Salt: The 250-Million-Year Story of Warcha

An Ocean Older Than the Himalayas
Himalayan pink salt is the evaporite of a Permian sea that dried up roughly 250 million years ago — long before the Himalayas rose. Tectonic collision folded those beds into the Salt Range of Punjab, where they sit unusually close to the surface. That geology is why Pakistan, not the high Himalayas, is the true home of "Himalayan" salt.
What Makes Warcha Different
The Warcha mine in Khushab District works one of the oldest and largest sections of the Salt Range. Its seam yields exceptionally dense crystal in a full spectrum — signature pink, dark red-pink, rare white, and gray — with the high trace-mineral content that gives pink salt its color and character. Because the deposit is compact and consistent, grading can be done by eye and hand at the seam, the way our family has done it since 1990.
The 84-Mineral Question
Pink salt is about 98% sodium chloride; the remainder is a fingerprint of trace elements — iron (the pink), calcium, magnesium, potassium, and dozens more in micro quantities. The honest claim is not that these minerals transform health, but that the salt is unrefined, unbleached, and free of anti-caking agents: what the sea laid down is what reaches the table.
Why Provenance Matters to Buyers
The market is full of re-traders selling salt of unknown origin. Buying from the mine gate means traceability (one seam, one factory, documented lots), consistent color across reorders, and export documents that match reality — phytosanitary certificates, certificates of origin, and lab reports drawn from the actual shipment. When your label says Himalayan pink salt, your supply chain should be able to point at the mountain.
